That’s how you know things are going bad coronavirus again: when huge movie studios cut back on their movies instead of trying to make as much money as possible as fast as possible. It’s not for public safety, of course – it’s for box office safety, in the sense that postponing the movie to a later date will generate more ticket sales than it did on the original date. And the first major movie to be delayed is the fourth appearance of the world-class killer and well-known dog lover John Wick.
John Wick 4 will now premiere on March 24, 2023, instead of May 27, 2022, as scheduled after Lionsgate delayed the film from its original date, May 21, 2021, due to the coronavirus and Reeves’ commitments to film The Matrix: Resurrections (which happens to be out today, December 22nd, on HBO Max and in theaters).
In any case, we have a nice video to announce the new release date. Here:
You will see a sign saying “Anderson, T.” is removed from the Top Bounties board, an obvious nod to Tom Anderson, Keanu’s character from The Matrix movies (you may know him better as Neo). Let us know in the comments if you see anything different.
In addition to Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Laurence Fishburne will all reprise their roles as Winston, Charon and the Bowery King respectively for John Wick 4. They will be joined by franchise newcomers Donnie Yen (Rogue One), Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat). ), Bill Skarsgård (It: Chapters One and Two), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), Scott Adkins (the undisputed movies), and Clancy Brown (who’s in everything); it also includes the film debut of Japanese-born, British-raised pop star/model Rina Sawayama as Akira.
