Ways to Fix SharePlay FaceTime Not Working

There could be many reasons why SharePlay in FaceTime might not work on your iPhone like software related issue, app support issue, etc. Here we will tell you ways to fix all such issues on your iPhone.

Check iOS Version

If you want to use SharePlay in FaceTime, the first thing your other participants should check is the requirements for this feature. The first and foremost requirement for SharePlay is the operating system version. It requires macOS Monterey, iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1.

So check the software version of your iPhone first and make sure it is running iOS 15.1 or later. You can check this as follows:

1. Go to Settings on your iPhone and tap General.

2. Now scroll down to About and tap on it.

3. Here you can check the software version of your iPhone.

If it’s not iOS 15, go back to General and tap Software Update. If there is an update, tap Download and Install to update your iPhone.

Make sure SharePlay is enabled

SharePlay is enabled by default on the latest iOS versions. But since there is a dedicated switch to control SharePlay and apps with this feature, you should also make sure it is turned on before using it. You can check this as follows:

1. Open Settings and go to FaceTime and tap it.

2. Now scroll to SharePlay and tap on it.

3. Then turn on the switch for SharePlay on the next page.

Check if the app is compatible

The next thing to check is whether the app you use to watch movies or listen to music together supports the SharePLay feature or not. As of now, it is only available in Apple’s apps including Music, Apple TV+ and some other apps like Disney+, Paramount+, HBO Max, Hulu and TikTok, etc.

Update the streaming app

Since SharePlay is the newest feature, many app developers have not yet added support for it to their apps. However, these apps will continue to receive updates with support for the feature. So check if there is an update for the app you are using to stream.

An older version of the app could be the cause of your problem and only updating the app can fix it. To check for an update, go to the App Store, tap your profile icon, and on the next page tap the Update button next to that app’s name, if available.

Check the compatibility of other participants

As you already know, SharePlay works as a two-way feature, so the other participants must also meet the requirements for this feature to work. The other participants must also have an Apple device with iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1 or macOS Monterey.

Next, make sure SharePlay is enabled on all devices. Note that now that one can use FaceTime and Android or even Windows, SharePlay will not be available to them as it is limited to just the Apple ecosystem.

Make sure everyone has an app subscription

The app support alone is not enough to make SharePlay work. You must also have a subscription to that app if you want to use the feature. Also, except for you, everyone else on the call must also have that app’s subscription.

If you are unable to use the SharePlay feature on a specific streaming app, it means that you or another participant may not have the necessary subscription to watch the movie or listen to the music. However, no subscription is required for free content.

Sign out and sing along in FaceTime

If you’ve tried all of the above, you should also try resetting FaceTime settings. This could fix the bugs. To reset the settings, you need to sign out with your Apple ID. This goes like this:

1. Open Settings and scroll down to FaceTime.

2. Tap your Apple ID here.

3. Tap Sign Out from the pop-up menu.

That is it! Go back to the home screen and after some time sign in to FaceTime again and try using SharePlay.

Restart iPhone

When you are done trying all the solutions above, there may be a background software issue on your device. So you can try restarting your device after closing the app. This will reset the software issue that may be running in the background.
